92 XP has lost it's spark

Okay now here's the deal when I'm turning over the motor i'm seeing no spark ....when I hit the red kill button I SEE A SPARK!!! but of course the engine stops turning over..... it's definitely a step forward but what in the heck would cause that!!!

Just going to get the skis out and the 92 XP lost its spark after being in storage .. new battery ,turns over great ,no spark... I've already got the gray box open and checked all the fuses. looks really good inside . I've looked at other posts and quite a few indications seem to lead to the mpem....

And now when I unplug this wire I have spark and that wire is a black with red tracer...
