the ski i just bought i mas told oil sys been removed but the pump an both lines still on motor all i can tell is mising is the linkage should i buy bolck off kit an pre mix or should i try to test pump an get linkage an stuff to hook back up

From everything I have read either way works.

Many people fear the oil injection because of stories they have heard about totaling an engine due to the failure of the system. I personally feel with the amount of these stories floating around they have really been duplicated and multiplied. The oil injection system is a great system and as long as it is maintained and monitored you will have no problems. A lot of the problems people seem to have is the fact that the line running to the engine clog. The simple fix to this is to replace the line, a fairly easy thing to do. The system is fairly simple, and the preventative maintenance is fairly small in my book. If you keep an eye on it and make sure to not mix 2-stroke oils in the tank you shouldn't have any issues.

If you decide to pre-mix the only issue you run into is running rich. You must premix at a ratio that would be safe for high rpm operation, so because of this at idle you tend to run rich and smoke more than usual. You will go through oil and plugs faster with this method. But, if you don't tend to keep an eye on the oil system and just want that extra reinsurance then go with premix.

i just dont know if it is worth it to try to check sys an buy linkage and stuff i need to make it work or just take it off an pre mix

It's going to be just as involved either way I have a feeling and for about the same price. You can pick up a new filter and new line of the internet for fairly cheap. I just bought mine for $12 bucks. All you have to do here is replace the line and filter.

You can get the block of for premix for around $15 I believe. You basically have to do the same work installing it's components.

So as far as work goes your just as involved either way I have a feeling.

I was told by an x racer who has performed alot of r&d on these that the oil pump does not work properly at some rpms around 5500, even with a perfect working pumping system.

I agree with Watson, i'd keep the oil injection. Like he said, you will use more oil with mixing it than with injection. Just keep it maintained. I have owned seadoos on and off for 15 years and the only issue I had with injection is with my recently purchased GSX because of previous owners mixing oils. (and me being the lucky one and not draining the gunky oil and replacing the lines before they plugged up.)

Here is where I get most of my parts, depending on what model you have, they might have it for you here.
www.shopsbt.com (couldnt find the oil cable there) you might have to get it from the dealer.

Or here is the the block off kit:

If you want to get it hooked up, just premix your first tank, fill your injection oil tank, change your injection lines (3/32 ID weedeater gas hose I think) and open the pump with your finger to where it would be at full throttle while it idles and watch the little lines fill with oil. If they don't, replace the pump. Also, you can pre-prime the system (at least all the way up to the pump) by unscrewing a little screw on the oil pump in the middle of it and let it bleed out. But if you premix for the first tank while the injection system is priming up, you should be ok either way.

Either way, you still need the oil tank hooked up and filled half way or so with oil because your crank needs the oil supply there to lube the RV gears, etc. So you can't totally get away from it. But if the pump has been running dry for a long time, it might be no good anymore.

So you will spend more getting the pump going right now probably, but in the long run you will spend more premixing.

is there realy the much a cost differance in premix and using pump
where would i hook oil to crank case if i just go with premix
i think thats what im going to do for now so i can get it going then later buy pump and lines

Alright try to stay with me on this one haha.

One gallon of gas is the equivilant of 128 ounces of gas.

So, lets say you fill up 5 gallons everytime you go riding (who knows just pulled that out the air)

5 gallons x 128 ounces/gal = 640 ounces

Now sea-doo recomends a 40:1 gas/oil ratio. This means 40 parts gas, 1 part oil. Now we will take the 640 ounces and divide by 40 to get the amount of oil you need to add for every 5 gallons of gas.

640 ounces / 40 = 16 ounces (which also happens to be equal to 1 pint)

So for every five gallons of gas you need one pint of oil. And for every one gallon of gas you need 3.2 ounces of oil (~quarter of a pint of oil)

I haven't rode my ski long enough to tell you how much oil you would have to add every fill up with oil injection. Last year I purchased my ski late in the season, and only had a chance to ride it three times. But, I keep some small pint size bottles of oil with me and I'm fairly sure in the 3 rides and fill ups I didn't go through 3 pints of oil.

Well first we need to know what model your ski is, I assume based on the year that it has a 587 in it. Unfortunately, I have never owned anything with that engine, but with most, the oil lines to the crank reside below the carb(s) on the feed line and between the exhaust and bottom of cylinders on the other side. Make sure you always have oil supply going in and out of there and plug your injection line, take the pump out and install the block off piece.

As we mentioned, not recommended but you can always go back later. Good luck
