I bought a 91 seadoo xp, guy said the oil block off was already installed. took it out today but it would not go over 5 to 10 mph, and the oil lght was on. ski has premix in it, but im wondering if these skis have a limp mode for when the oil is low. And if so, will disconnecting the oil sensor fix the problem?

Whats it doing when you try to accelerate? Ill have to look at mine to see what happened with the oil sensor when I went premix, I dont remember... Someone else should chime in.

well i held it full throttle but it would only go about 5 or 10 miles an hour. the motor sounds fine, it just feels like it has a limp mode becuase it thinks it has low oil. I checked the oil reservoir and it had oil in it, which i think the guy before last just put some in there to make it think it had oil.

yeah i have been reading that here. Im kinda new to the seadoo's but i have had two kawi stand ups, and i installed an oil block off on one and didn't have to do that. so im thinking the sensor may be bad. Do you know if its kinda like a fuel sending unit? and maybe its just stuck. I really just want to unplug it and hopefully it works. I think the lines are still hooked up for the valves to be lubed. im at work right now off in two hours so i was going to try some of my theories and just trying to get some input from you guys here.

Unplugging it might work but I wouldnt do it unless you know its bad. You could do alot of damage to the motor if it is actually working and you run out of oil.

well i will be running premix since it has the block off already, so Im not seeing how I could damage the motor. am i missing something?

If you have no oil in the tank then you rotary valves or whatever they are called wont get oil and it will seize your motor. Correct me if I am wrong someone. I have mine blocked off as well but still have a line running to the bottom of my motor. The oil will be cycled back to the oil tank.

ok gotcha, i was just making sure i was on the same page. i think im goin to just throw some more oil in the take and see what happens. and then see what happens if i disconnect the sensor if putting more oil in doesnt help.

Since I didn't see it answered... Just an FYI... a 91 Seadoo does not have "limp Mode." Adding oil to your tank will not magically make the engine run. You have some other mechanical issue.

ok so its still not running 100%. How many fuel filters do these things have? and if there are some in the carb, will i need a carb kit if i have to clean them to be able to put it back together? it just sounds like its not getting enough fuel. out of the water, i fire it up, grab the throttle and open it all the way and it will tac out and hit the rev limiter (mind you, one for a second or two) and it sounds fine. as soon as its in the water (under a load) it will only go so fast, like 10 to 15 mph. im going take off the flame arrestor assembly and fire it, to see if both carbs are getting fuel and to make sure they are opening all the way. and im going to check all the fuel lines. Anyone want to give any input?

not yet, i am tomorrow just to see what it is. what is this thing called "pop off"? i have never had to deal that becuase the skis i have had have always ran, and just sometimes needed a little air and fuel screw adjustments. I also spoke to a friend of mine, and he said that his dad has a 95 polaris and he said that they were having a similar problem, and as they were checking the hoses, they found fairly large diameter hose that had a hole in it. they replaced it and it ran fine. And i know they are two different skis but im trying to figure out which hose that may have been, he cant remember which one it was.

Pop off pressure is the amount of pressure it takes to open up the needle. It is very important. I am going to have mine tested here soon because I am having major problems with my 95 xp.

Running oil block off without oil in the tank wont seize the engine on premix, but it will shear off the gear that drives the rotary valve. Pull them carbs off and clean them up. Fresh gas. If the parts are toast get a carb rebuild kit. Dont mess around or itll mess with your wallet in the long run. Driving an engine not running properly will cause damage.

thanks 6KJR, i know i wouldnt seize the engine, but this rotary valve thing is different that the kawi stand ups im used to. I hear there may be some filters in the carbs?

Ya every carb has one. I donno if yours is single or dual carb model. Just take them off, you could be in for a surprise.

Ive read so many posts I dont remember what fuel lines you had, if their grey replace them.

I dont have access to my seadoo or I could tell you what I did with my oil sensor for the delete. I dont even have the gay tank in there anymore.

I have the dual carbs, and what do you mean by suprise? lol. and yeah i have been reading alot of posts too, and alot talk about them grey lines. mine are all black.

The little filters could be plugged solid. Thats the surprise. There could be some nasty sludge in the carbs too from junk fuel or so on.

The stickies at the top are some good ones usually to read. The fuel filters are cheap, but could probably be cleaned. The carb diaphragms on the other hand, if their shot will need to be replaced. If their original their probably long due.

copy that thanks for all of ur help. I figured it was going to boil down to the carb being dirty. still crossin my fingers!

Ya you can pick up different sizes for fuel lines that dont require pressure. Ask a parts store.
