90 sp wont idle seems to be loading up

I have a 90 sp 580. I rebuilt the carb and it runs great but everytime it return to idle it dies. I acts as if it is loading up. I shut the gas off and give it full throttle and it is the only way it will start. I smokes a lot then cleans off and i am ripping again. any ideas

Hi, I have two 90 SP's. I recently rebuilt the carbs on both and have had the same problem. Mine ended up being a slightly stretched throttle cable. I had to keep playing with the cable adjustments at the carb linkage and finally think I got it right. Has been running great the last few times...

I have a second 90 SP that I rebuilt the carb and and cant keep running at all, so I think it is a matter of trial and error with the adjustments. Hope to have this one running soon.

check the low speed mixture screws--mine backed out and caused that problem.

the needle/s might be leak'n, inside the carb.
