787 Cracked Jug. What to do?

I have heard of many fixing their tuned pipes with JB weld, and have not heard of any issues. Water pressure and vibrations would be the same in that pipe cavity as in the cylinder cavity. So it should work, but if I could find a guy to weld it I would do that first.

I got a quote of 60-120$ to make he repair. I figured at that price I could buy a new jug.

I went ahead and used a loctite marine epoxy for the repair, it was almost as strong as JB weld but was designed to be in wet environments.

The first step was to grind out the crack to expose any hidden extended cracks or corroded material, I did this with a little carbide bit in my dremel. Before doing this I masked off the engine internals with tape to seal it from debris.

Wiped all the surfaces with acetone and a blast of air to clean it out further. I then applied my epoxy following the instructions.

I used my finger as an applicator wearing a latex glove

I let this cure overnight, and sanded off the excess on the outside.

Then yesterday afternoon I hit the engine with some paint.

Hopefully it will hold, I feel confident that it will.

Looks good Krispy, but those prices to get that welded were absurd. For $120 that guy can choke on his lunch. Paint looks really nice!

Yea I thought so as well. It made my decision easy. This is the same guy that welded my muffler welsh plugs for 40$.

I think he just quoted himself out of the job on purpose.
