HI,

Has anyone done/ heard of repowering a 787 challanger with a 951? I know its a bit of engineering to fit the engine but is the extra 20hp worth it? whilst keeping the 787 pump, or has anyone modified thier boat to fit the 951 pump as well?

I'll subscribe to this post, as this is something I'm considering in my chall. 1800. Not sure if the cost/weight/effort is worth the 40hp (2 engines in my boat).

i thought the same thing when i melted one of my pistons

but the 787 seems to be a more common engine, at least on this board

I have a single also, the 951 has a 155mm pump. The problem with these boats is the small pump.Groupk has an old article on them on what can be done to improve perform. It helped me,until I sucked up a rock.I am going to send my solas XO out this winter for repairs.

Thanks guys,

I know where one of these boats are locally with a dead engine. Every one tells me they are ok with 3-4 adults on board, but are marginal for towing water toys, let alone a wakeboarder.

I thought about a small car engine into it. I used to have a Daihatsu Charade GTti 993cc 3 cyl twin cam turbo. Made 160hp at the wheels with an aftermarket computer, turbo and intercooler. The limiting factor would still be the pump.

Why were these boats never made with the 951, even the early 2000 twin engine boats still had the 787 in them.

Rather than modifying the pump mount to fit the 951 pump, you can Buy a Skat-Trak Magnum pump that will bolt right in with no modifications.
