Buddy gave me 93 XP 650 with hole in bottom of case. I bought a used SBT rebuilt short block of unknown year the seller thought was a 650 but measuring the bore thru the exhaust port the bore is to large. Thinking it must be a 720. The top of head has 3 small coolant ports, 93 650 has 1 large and 1 small. Could I swap the top coolant jacket part of head from 650 to 720? They look similar. I plan on using the orginal dual carbs. They have ajustable low and high speed fuel mixture screws. Should I use a 720 rotary valve? The 650 has a 147 degree valve and needs replacement anyway.

Look at top of the magnito houseing for the motor size plate.
The head bolt pattern is different. If its a 720, it uses a 159* RV.
Carbs swap will not work as jetting is different.

not to mention the mpem is different!!!
gonna be alot of work and parts to make that engine stick
mud

mpem should be fine. 93 was a regular 650, if you swap the sator from the 650->720 it should be fine

find a manifold for a 720, the carbs are the same the jets and needles /pop off are different.

you'll also want the exhaust from a 720 2 piece one from the XP or SPX. find your parts from a 95XP or 96-97 SPX

there is a parts breaker up in Alexandria that might have some of your parts but if you found a SBT motor I think you'll find the parts you'll need

720 swap to 93XP 650

The 720 is a bare long block. It looks like the 650. My plan is to swap the pto flywheel, sator housing, stator and flywheel. At first I thought I could swap the coolant cover from the 650 to 720 to solve the cooling system-hose hookup problem but internally they are different so that won't work. And can't swap the complete head. So you think if I get a 720 exhaust manifold and pipe I should be able to solve the cooling system hookup? The 650 rotary valve and intake manifold are chewed up anyway so I need to find those parts. The carbs. have adjusting screws for low and high speed fuel mixture , I didn't think was replaceable jets. I've never did any major work on a jetski before, so this is kind of a winter project for me. I do have three snowmobiles and know what can happen if a 2 stroke doesn't have the right fuel mixture.

as far as the cooling system leave it the way it was meant to be.

pick up a service manual you'll see how the hose should route I have to figure that little part as well i'm working on a 583-717 swap myself

on the 720 water flows from that 3rd nipple into your pipe's expansion chamber

I wish I could say the difference in the 650 and 717 pipe was the angle of that elbow but I'm not sure
