I've got a weird one here.
717 engine that needed a rebuild but was running. It would not start after rebuilding and it had me scratching my head. It would kick but almost stop the motor instead.
During the rebuild I noticed that the center hub on the flywheel was rotated about 90° so i replaced that and didn't think anything of it.
Then it just would not start... I thought maybe the new crank was keyed wrong, nope. Maybe I timed the rv wrong, nope, water in the fuel, nope.... compression, all good. Lots of blue spark......
Mpem? Nope. Wiring...nope......
Thats when I noticed the stator pickup had the lightning coil replaced....
So my question is what happens when you put that in backwards ? Does it move the timing off ? By like 90° ? As in a bad flywheel and backwards coil cancelled etachother out....
I replaced the both the flywheel and stator now and am about to reinstall the engine soon but this one was just weird.... I mean 717's are pretty straight forward but this one was a head scratcher.
