Hello all I am new to the seadoo world .
I am now the proud owner of 2 93 587 motor seadoos.
One has a bent rod restricting the cranks from rotating freely,
what is my easiest way to fix, Is changing the crank a good
and easy route being a roockie, or should i go ahead and get a
bottom end??,
OR
I hae a 94 or 95 hx with a 717 motor will it bolt in and be a easy swap
it is a running good compression motor>
which is best..

I recently had a defective Web on my crankshaft and in my case it cost me $250 for a complete rebuild in Orange, CA, $50 in parts, and six weekends to pull the engine apart, re-install, clean the carbs, etc.

do you have a number of the place you bought the motor..

gotta open ur up, see exactly whats wrong. Could just be a topend, or a complete rebuild. If thats the case, SBT for replacemnt motor

JT:

Competitive Crankshafts, Orange, CA (714) 922-8229.

Talk to Jeff. I found him very helpful. I called him a dozen times for advice on putting the engine back together and he always tool my calls, even on weekends.

I paid $250 for a rebuilt crankshaft and about $50 for a complete gasket kit, Three Bond silicone.

If you need any help, just drop me a note.

I am only a Shade Tree mechanic, however, with help from several people on the Forum, I dismantled the Jet Pump, engine, crabs and put everything together.

Be sure to mark all your bolts and screws and put them in some type of container. I didn't and that cost me a couple of weekends running around three counties finding replacements because the local Sea Doo dealer rarely had what I needed.

I have pulled it apart and the jug and pistons are great appears that a rod bent??, is this common?, it could possibly be something on the crank but rod looks tweaked bad..

What about putting the 717 in it will it bolt right in, my 587 is white, not yellow like some if that matters thanks jason

The Connecting Rod (CR) connects to the Crankshaft (CS), so, at a minimum, the CS has to be disassmebled to replace a defective CR.

Special equipment is needed to disassemble/assemble a CS, so, in my opinion, that os a Shade Tree mechanic that just replaced a defective CS, it may make moer economic sense to repalce the entire CS.

That way, you will have new bearings.

If you change from a 587 to a 717, you will need a different electrical box ($100-$150), plus make some additional changes.

If you want a 717, it maye be cheaper to go buy a 717 SD and sell your 587.

The rod may have bent because the Doo hydrolocked. How do the bearings look? Rusted??

I have a hx that is complete could i use that electrical box??

electrical and cooling system.

You can install everything from the hx along with the ebox, to get ski to run. Te motor mounts are the same.

one question on my 717 it turns over hard with plugs in but with them out it turns great with 150 psi.. Weak starter? even under a jump it turns slow with plugs in>>
