2015 seadoo gti se 130 BIG ISSUE

Hi, I just bought a 2015 seadoo gti se 130, and it’s got some fairly big issues I believe. It’s only got 66 hours if that makes a difference. So I was going through because right was told it runs rough, one of the spark plugs was smashed to the point where it had no gap, so I put new plugs in and tried it out, and it ran better. Buttt the engine sounds absolutely terrible, and it spit out about 2 or 3 quarts of oil from the back of the ski in less than 15 seconds of running. There is a very loud clanking coming from the engine while it runs. I’m just kinda looking to see if anyone’s had a similar issue, or if you have any ideas as to what it actually would be before I take it completely apart. Any answers would be appreciated, just interested as to what you think it would be before I go and take everything apart

To pump that much oil out the exhaust ( I assume), you got some major damage. At minimum you might have dropped a valve/damaged valve guide/seal - you can pull off the valve cover and see any damage there. That in turn most likely damage the piston, but pushing that much oil, I don't know. Good luck!

If there is any way to unwind your purchase, get some money back, I probably would.

But if you own it, then I would look closely at your oil pump area, oil hoses, filter housing area, etc. It seems that you are maybe pumping oil externally and have an oil leak on the pressure side of the oil pump. Also try to look at the block and make sure you don't have a hole or crack from a piston rod that has failed. You have a major issue obviously.

As for the engine noise, it could be noise from not having oil and oil pressure (because your oil is being pumped into the hull) or more substantial engine damage. It isn't a good feeling, for sure. I don't know what one of these engines sounds like when it doesn't have oil pressure, and never want to find out - but no oil pressure is likely a damaging condition if run for a minute or so.

I would probably put more oil in the engine and crank it over to try and find your oil leak first, fix that if it is minor, and then see how the engine sounds with proper oil level. If the oil leak is complex and significant, I would check engine compression to see if you have consistent readings probably about 130psi or higher, and decide if you want to do an engine tear down or assembly replacement.

Wish you the best...

I got the thing super cheap, so I’m not really worried about trying to undo the deal. And I think you misunderstood where the oil is coming from, there is absolutely no oil in the hull, it just comes out of id assume the exhaust, on the back of the ski. In 15 secs of running it also completely blocked out the road in smoke and 3 people stopped. I’ll be testing the compression later today, I have to borrow a buddies tester because mine has the wrong threads on it. Is ther any cooling lines going to/from the impeller that someone could have connected accidentally to a oil line? I’ve only ever worked on the older 2 strokes that pump lake water through to cool, never on one that actually has coolant in the engine so I don’t know if that’s a possibility?

Now I understand... Glad you are doing a compression test next. I think you can expect some mechanical valve damage, valve seal leaks, piston damage, etc. based on the noises you are hearing. I know the engines will start and run on 1 cylinder, so you could have 1 or 2 cylinders with a concern.

While anything can happen with someone attaching hoses incorrectly, there isn't any obvious reason that someone would mix oil and coolant hoses. And even if it was possible, you would have oil in the cooling system or coolant in the oil, but still not supposed to be in your cylinders being burned. If your coolant level seems OK, then you probably don't have a head gasket leak. It sounds like you have heavy blue/white exhaust smoke from oil getting into the cylinder and being burned. Your compression test will be rather revealing... and prepare for possible engine work. Too bad with such low hours too, but sounds like the rest of the ski is probably in great shape and definitely worth fixing if you got it cheap.

What was your oil level like before and now after it pushed oil out the exhaust? If it was overfilled, it could have pushed it out the breather which is connected to the air intake going to the throttle body. Your throttle body and intake hose would be coated with oil. But based on the noises, it probably is not it, but more internal engine damage.

No need for a compression test. I wouldn't crank it at all anymore if you have a loud clanking noise. Just pull the motor and start tearing it down. The problem will be obvious. Only takes 2-3 hours to pull and disassemble entire motor.
