Hi, I am new to this forum and thanks for letting me be a part of it. I am currently in the market for the 2014 RXTX 260. The dealer has offered me a new 2012 RXTX for $2k less and says the ONLY difference is the color yellow. As a firefighter, I really like the red on the 2014, but I don't $2k like it! Can anyone tell me if there are any other differences or what I want to look for if there are variances between these models years?

Thank you,
Judd

The color is one of the only differences. Another difference is Seadoo has been having issues with the reliability of their intercoolers (mainly 2011-2013 so far). They claim to have improved the intercooler durability for 2014 but that has yet to play out. In light of this, I think the options for a warranty on each ski would be a deciding factor if it was me. Actually if it was me I would just replace the intercooler to begin with. Sadly it's something that Seadoo should be able to get right from the factory but have failed to do so.

Thank you for the info. The 2012 is still in a crate and still carries the factory warranty same as the 2014. What is the issue with the intercoolers? Physically breaking or just not efficient?

Both. They have a poor durability track record (espcially 2011-2013 so far) and both my Fizzle F1000 Intercooler and the Riva intercooler (the only 2 replacement options) will outperform the stock 255/260 intercoolers.

Hi, I have just purchased a new 2012 RXT-X as 260, is the intercooler problem widely accepted as happening to every one of this model?
And if I change it to an aftermarket unit to avoid any problems does tht void warranty?

Thanks

It is not a guarantee that it will fail but I would say there's about a 30-50% chance. Many people change it out before they find out the hard way for themselves.

The level of modifications you can do without voiding the warranty usually depends on the dealership you would go to get the warranty work done. Technically Seadoo would have to prove that anything you changed was the cause for any issues that might occur over the warranty period. You could always change the intercooler now and put the stock one back in if you need to bring the ski into the dealership for work.
