I have a 09 rxpx that i am going to change the wear ring to stainless and install a solaris impeller. I have the impeller tool. looking for tips to make it easier. any directions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

hi tcauthen, do your self a big faver dont use the metal wear ring
the plastic one wears thats why they call it wear ring,
I never looked at your year craft but if its the same as an 04
unhook all the rods--controls-- 4 bolts on the outer pump
then go deep and get the other 4

Thanks for the info trapper. I thought I would run the stainless because i stay in the ms river more than anywhere else. Lots of sand. I have read that some of the pumps have oil in them. Does mine?

no oil in your pump, just grease. the ss wear is not a good idea, imo. it can cause major damage even with just getting a stick stuck. stay out of sand anyway.

Without pssing anone off here...

Unlike some....I've used both the oem and the SS wear ring.

I'm currently running the same ss wear ring that I installed over 5yrs ago. And still today, I have tighter tollerances between my prop and ring when compared to oem spec...by a friggen mile. What's that mean? More efficient...faster top speeds and stronger hole shots. I've never distroyed a prop or the pump bearings because I ingested a stick...usually turn it into salad. I don't beach the ski...I don't ingest rocks.

Believe what you want...do what you want.

red2blue you are right if you keep it clean then all is ok
its if you dont thats when you pay for it,
I have riden up creeks and swamps before
im not doing that anymore to many rocks

the key is not getting foreign objects in your pump. I still have the original factory OEM plastic wear ring on my 04 RXP and it is still nearly perfect as it was installed 80 hours ago from the factory.

the problem is that I have to fix other peoples pumps after they ingest who knows what, examples are a wind breaker jacket, a bicycle inner tube, a childs floating arm band, a fishing pole(or what was left of it), a million ski ropes and a billion sticks. nearly every time I fix a pump with a ss wear ring, the damage is worse than it would have been if it would have had a plastic wear ring, that's the only point I'm trying to make.
