Hi
Just purchased a 2009 GTX Limited iS 255 with 10 hours on it that had been in storage for four years. It runs great EXCEPT that it randomly gets a "check engine" light with an "Overheat" light on the dashboard that slows it down to 'docking mode." The information display then says "Hot Exhaust Temperature."
I've cleaned out the water input and even changed the temperature sender on the exhaust with no luck. Very frustrating. I actually believe, but not positive, that it's not overheating. No smell of heat or steam of any sort. I shut the motor off and a few minutes later it resets but will come on again later. There appears to be no rhyme or reason for it. I can go out for 10 minutes and it happens or 40 minutes before it happens. Not going full throttle either. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Any ideas? What is the reputation of these models? I know it was the first year of the IS and IBR so nervous that I bought a lemon.
Thank you,
Bob

Where was it stored for four years, was it outside? Are you sure the hoses are clear and that nothing is cracked or leaking, any animals make a nest in there?

Not sure on any of those questions. Bought it off someone that I've dealt with before and he told me he got it from someone who bought it and then didn't use it after the first year. The inside engine looks brand new so I believe it. Didn't see any animals and the hoses look new. Are you suggesting that an animal might have gotten into the exhaust and clogged it up? Hard to check that?
Thank you.

There is an update sensor as they had issues with these. And there are two sensors. One is on the engine I Believe. Replace them both with the updated sensor if the one you got isn't the updated style.

I had the local guy replace the sensor on the exhaust. Not sure I trust him so will need to check that out. You've seen this before? How are these machines? I'm really worried that I bought a lemon.
Thank you.

You mentioned two sensors. What is the other one? Why change both? Are they both updated? I think I know where the exhaust one is but not the other.
Thank you,
Bob

Almost positive the are two sensors. And yes, we had seen this before. The GTX is a nice machine. Though I am not a fan of suspension ski's, the GTX is a god ski. I have both a GTX ands RXT-X, love them both.

I am flying get now now and can't easily access the parts page, so I can't confirm there are two sensors. But I feel confident that I have read there are two. And I am sure there is an updated part number.

On top of the battery cage is two fuse boxes. Open them up and pull each fuse one at a time clean with electronic cleaner spray then dielectric grease each one. Look for corrosion.

Power up the electrical on your ski and hit the IBR override to lift the reverse gate. Take a flashlight and look in the pump nozzle to your left and back. You should see a coarse screen. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the screen. That is the inlet going to your IBR and exhaust cooling.

On the exhaust manifold at the front of the engine is an elbow fitting that is prone to clogging. That is why it is important to flush out after every trip. Flushing reverses the water flow direction.

Just checked my manual Kevin and there are two sensors. One for the exhaust and one on the thermostat housing for the coolant.
The exhaust sensor I replaced last year was an updated one. Hope this helps.

Do these skis ('09 GTX/255) use the same type of flushing adapter as my '02 GTX/155? Check to make sure that's not installed.

Facing the rear of the ski you will see a threaded hole on the left. It looks like something should go in there like a plug. That is where the garden hose attaches. You can put a quick connect on it but it must remain open.

Many quick disconnect fittings are CLOSED when not connected to the other half. And, many have a smaller office and restrict the flow. I leave mine wide open with no adapters...
