2009 GTI. Glove box TOO big!

Picked up a 2009 GTI SE yesterday. Took it out for a bit yesterday and today and I've come to realize that bigger is not always better. The glove box is in desperate need of some sort of shallower tray that can be removed to get to the rest of the box. The glove box on our 97 GTI was much better. Just the right size for wallets, keys, phone, etc.

Anyone fabbed up something like this? Just thinking of a shallow box that would fit just inside of the current box and have small ears/whatever that hang over and suspend it above the rest of the box.

I'm also curious as to what models use this box. I know all of the GTIs and I think the 155 wake.

Also, our 97 had a small storage box under the seat at the rear. Do any models come with this now? If so, would it work on an 09 GTI?

This storage container came in quite handy in storing wet items like ski ropes and sandals.

I agree that its kind of black hole in there. Thats where I stash my mooring robes when riding. I bought a small waterproof box to put insurance, wallet, keys, cellphone in etc that just kind of drops in there. I enjoy the fact though that I can squeeze a bottle of water or 2 and my sunscreen, a hat, 2 mooring robes (10ft) and that water proof box in there and still have some room left over. Just wish there was a better way to seperate it somehow. Have u checked the accesories catalog?

Yeah. I looked around a bit and haven't come across anything. Thinking about two options.

One is a shallow tray that you could remove to get to the rest of the box.

The other idea is a narrow box/pocket that would hang on the top edge of the box. This way, you would have access to both the deep box and the narrow pocket type box without having to remove a tray.

I do like it to store mooring ropes in but a lot of times they might be wet and that kind of defeats the purpose of a waterproof box.

I know I could just get a waterproof box of sorts but with our old model, it was so conveinient to have the glove box right there without having to open up and dig through something else.

I wish there was a way to add storage under the seat too.

oh, you're talking about the forward watertight compartment? I thought u were talking about the glove box between ur legs underneath the handle bars.
