2008 GTI SE 155 Glove box replacement

Have a 2008 GTI SE 155 and trying to replace the glove box. I know to do the left first (longer tab)...but I can NOT seem to get the right side to pop in. ANY suggestions? I am afraid I am going to break it. BUT maybe it takes some force. THANKS in advance!

sounds like you are trying to replace the storage compartment cover. You will actually put the right side in the slide channel first. Then move the cover towards the top 1/3 of the box, and you will see a cut out half circle on the left channel - this is where you put the left side in. The half cut out circle is where you will be able to pull and push the left side into the channel. If you don’t use the cut out area, you will break the tab off the cover and have to get another.

Look for the cut out area… you will see it.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! I bought on Amazon and someone said in the reviews HOW to put it on and they said, LEFT side first then bend right tab back and pop in, as I mentioned, but it took so much force I was afraid I would break.

I mean the tabs are what broke and the reason I am replacing! I bought this used and it was in horrible shape! They kept outside on a lift all the time, so the sun probs cooked it brittle. I was really pleased with the redo, but never ordered a new lid, kind of made it work until someone else riding it and it flew off! Thank you again....hopefully will get it done!

I could NOT get it!! The tabs are not round but "rounded edged rectangular" (forgotten my geometry!). They seem to have to go in a certain way- like the lid needs to be straight up and the steering column seems to be in the way to obtain that position. I can get one side in, but the other HAS to go in a certain way. UGH...might just send this lid back. It looks exactly like the other, but not 100% positive since its at the bottom of the lake, lol. ANY additional suggestions?

One thing I have learned about installing plastic parts with tabs in Minnesota is that heat works miracles. If you have a heat gun or hairdryer try heating it up. The warmer it gets the more flexible the plastic becomes, just don’t melt it.

GREAT idea! I have a heat gun AND a hairdryer! THANK YOU!!!

It is hard, but not that hard. I assume you have the correct cover - and you should double check to be sure. With the correct cover, and right side tab correctly in the slide channel, and the left side tab at the cut out area of the left slide channel, you should get this to go in. It takes some effort, but not an unusual effort. I am a little concerned that something isn’t right, but you should be able to pull outward on the cover, and press down at the same time to push the left tab thru the cut out area. I have never had to apply heat removing or installing my cover, although it might help. I don’t recall me ever using a screwdriver to pry. There might be a you tube video of someone doing a cover replacement?
