2007 RXP Supercharger Help

Have a chance to buy one for cheap but some issues with it. It has 96 hours on it. Fires up on trailer but I almost hear a faint slight rattle. When put in water it quits. First thought is engine is blown or super charger had went out. What do you think?

The pump rattle is normal outa the water. What does the dreamo-meter say at wot?...How's the r's look?

What red said. You're hearing a pump rattle which is normal out of the water. Had the supercharger been rebuilt? If not you're looking at a rebuild at 100 hrs and that will run you somewhere around $500-600. Also at wide open throttle what RPMs is it turning and how fast are you going according to the speedo? Do you feel any cavitation under acceleration? All these things will help us determine the condition the ski is in and some are bigger deals than others. Let us know so we can help you further.

I will third that the on trailer rattle is normal.

If it does need a SC rebuild, donut right and get the updated shaft (09 and newer), and updated kit. It will give you 200 hrs before it needs rebuilt.

When put in the water backing off the trailer it quits. So it starts then when backing it off the trailer in reverse the guy said it quit on him. He was able to get it started back and got back closer to the trailer enough to crack it back on trailer after floating down stream some. Took it to a 2nd hand mechanic and he said it sounded like crap but may just need some plugs.

Sounds like bad plugs to me. Put a set of new ones in ($12) and see what happens. These 4tecs like to eat plugs like candy.

96 hours on it, if it hasn't had the SC rebuilt then IT IS DUE to be rebuilt at this point! The original '07 SC has a 100 hr rebuild interval.

Change engine oil, filter and spark plugs yearly; something about these supercharged 4TEC engines ruins spark plugs fairly quickly they may look clean like new even when you take them out... but they won't spark under compression anymore when they go; the engine will run like cwap till you put new ones in.

All jetpumps rattle a little when run dry on a trailer or lift, there's no load on the impeller and as a result it shakes around on the shaft just a little bit... even my full size jetboat with Berkley pump rattles when run on trailer. As long as rattle goes away when in water it's all good!

ps. With nearly 100 hrs you probably would do well to replace (or at least inspect!) the jet pump wear ring (it's plastic and gouges easily which reduces thrust), and inspect the impeller (for dings on the blades) as well as check the grease inside the cone on the back of the pump.
