Hey Everyone,

I bought an 06 RXP with 200hrs this past weekend with the understanding it did not run. I got it home and checked the oil only to find a dry dipstick. I added 4-5 quarts of oil and it looks like every bit ended up in the hull. I'm assuming it is going to need a replacement(remanufactured) engine and I wanted some input. I was an automotive technician during college and feel that I can probably handle the install with the help of my friends.

My concerns are as follows:

1) Where should I get the motor? I like the idea of an SBT but I know some people are negative towards them.

2) Aside from the supercharger washers, are there any items I should change/repair while I have it apart

Thank You,

Will

With the 06 all the problem are mostly with the engine (valves and something with the flywheel). As far as the supercharger goes do a full rebuild using a new rebuild kit. It will contain all the updated washers so no more worries there. I hope you got a good deal on the ski because you are looking at a ton of money to get this thing running again.

Popped motor means complete replacement. I'd get a reman motor and you won't get all the core charge back due to your "oil vent", but that's where you'll start. I'd also get another S/C so you can start fresh. Any ideas why it blew? While you're taking it out you may want to get an answer to that question.

I paid $1500, so not necessarily a steal but I didn't think it was bad. I'm billing some of the extra money to my "entertainment" fund. The previous owners were fairly oblivious and couldn't provide a very concise story.

Ocod, thanks for the heads up but I think for that kind of $ I would feel more comfortable on an engine with a warranty.

You're gonna spend a whole lot more on an engine with a warranty. Unfortunately these 4tecs get very pricy if you don't have a good core. $2700 without core is a good deal in my book. Warranty or not. Maybe your best bet is to find a used engine out of a wrecked ski. I've seen a few on Craigslist under $2000 in the last 2 months. Of course no warranty there either.
