2006 GTX intermittent start issue

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum but I have been searching non-stop for months on how to fix this issue. I have a 2006 gtx 4-tec that intermittently does not "accept" my lanyard. This started last season and would only happen every once in a while. Usually we would just reseat the key a few times and then it would start up just fine. As the year went on this started happening more and more. Now, I am lucky if I can get it to start at all.

So far I have replaced the battery, the DESS post, and the starter relay. I have checked all obvious wiring and I have no blown fuses. I even replaced a few just to be sure. When I get the key to "accept," it starts up with no issues. When it does not accept, I get two long beeps, followed by 4 short beeps that repeat. I looked at the manual, which pointed me towards a lanyard or DESS issue.

The odd thing is that every morning, I can go out and start it up on the first try no problem but once I remove the key and reseat it, then I get the two long/four short beeps. The other day I was able to start the jetski and then remove the key 5 times before it "failed." And yesterday, I installed the key, got the two long/four short and then after 10 seconds of leaving the key hooked up, it started beeping normal and started right up.

Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Most suggest that you clean all connectors. Disconnect them and clean, then coat with bi-electric grease to waterproof/element proof. Take apart battery leads at the relay switch and do the same. Hopefully, this will cover one of the connectors that is intermittent.
I like to spray my battery connectors with LPS 3 to keep out oxygen.

I have pretty much done this but I didn't use bi-electric grease as there was no corrosion present. I will give it another go tomorrow. Are there any specific connectors I should be focusing on other than the relay switch? My confusion stems from the fact that it will start, I can remove the key and reinsert it, without changing a thing, and it won't start again.

Troubleshooting guide: use pencil eraser rub inside key and post. Do a stress test on battery, even though you just replaced. I use good quality sealed AGM batteries on mine. Vented batteries do not last even Interstate.
