I've got a 2006 GTI STD and getting sensor error message when connecting DESS. Took it to shop and and mechanic says there's a speed sensor short. I don't have a speed sensor installed on machine. The wiring is in place for speed sensor so I was checking wiring for short and error went away. Figured short in wire so I've disconnected wire's right a connection block at MPEM. Went for ride yesterday and now sensor error message is back?

The 2006 models have an MPEM and ECM. The MPEM's have a programmable setting for features, like speedo, VTS, compass, depth finder, etc. For an unknown reason, usually after you store them with battery disconnected, the MPEM "loses" whatever settings it had, so when it is powered back up, you can get faults like you are seeing. (what is actually happening is your MPEM changed its setting to look for the speed sensor, it couldn't find it, so it throws that fault.

It's an easy fix, either take it to the dealer to get the speedo unchecked in the settings program, or buy a Candoopro system and do it yourself (plus you then have the Candoopro to do all your own work on the ski)

Hi Sea Dood

When I had it at the shop the mechanic tried what you suggested but it wouldn't allow him to check or uncheck the setting. He would clear the error code and it would come right back. Gonna pull the mpem and install it in another machine and see if the problem persist's.
