Hey i'm new to the pwc world and i've heard that i'm supposed to grease up my jet pump every so often, is this true and if so I'm not sure what procedures to take in doing this.

3262, Sportster is correct; the manuals are very good. The jet pump I had in my 1995 XP had oil bath bearing, and the manual recommended an oil change at the end of the season. My '02s GTXs have greased bearings. I read a comment from SkiDoo ... he suggested re-grease every 5 years. I got my skis used; I don't know if the pumps were ever serviced, so I knocked both of them out this year.

I ordered all the parts (seals, 0-rings and such), but had to order additional parts once I pulled the pump apart; one of the oil seals had failed & the pump was full of water. Consequently, I replaced the bearing & the impeller shaft sleeve due to corrosion. The manual recommends changing the oil seal every 100 hrs anyway.

Make sure you pull the bearing apart and inspect the race; you'll have to clean it thoroughly to see if there are any defects. If you see any pitting, replace the bearing. The manuals also tell you what parts you'll need, and the Perry Performance Group (PPG) web site has the illustrated parts breakdown, so you will know exactly what part numbers to order. You will also need to order some tools, impeller tool, Seal Driver (It's a special tool to drive out & in the oil seal, and you will need it to do the job properly.) I also had to buy a 3/8 or 1/2" drive hex (I can't remember the size ... 20 or 22mm I think) to loosen the impeller drive shaft from the impeller, and a long 1/2" breaker bar. The manual will have all the part numbers for the tools, and a quick search on EBay will yield the best prices. You will also need various Loctite or Permatex thread lockers to hold things together. Torque on the impeller drive shaft was 95' ft lbs, so don't forget a torque wrench.

Once you are finished, a pressure check will make sure it's all good. The pressure cap is about $20, and I recommend the test. If you don't have a good seal, water will get back in and you'll develop problems quickly. The impeller shaft sleeve is over $100.00.

Good luck.
