So I hadn't been paying much attention to my skis top end RPMs lately and I noticed today that I could not get it to go above 7500rpm and averaging around 7350. Everything idles smooth and has fine low end power.

It's a Riva Stage II RXP.
Just changed plugs
I checked the oil level after I had ran it on the water for about an hour and it was like half an inch above the top mark on the dip stick. Is this the culprit? I sucked out enough oil until it as like 3/4 full. I'll be able to run it again this weekend to see if this fixes it. Anything else I should check?

Question #2

I noticed when I made a turn going about 10mph under half throttle it sounded as if my impeller was rubbing the wear ring. Is it possible to have shaft play that would cause this? I didn't feel any vibration but it sounded as if I hit a plastic tarp with a weedeater. It only does it during turns. I'm gonna check the clearances and see if they're equal around the prop. Is there any way else to tell if something is going on other than with a feeler gauge?

#1, yes, oil level too high on the 4-tec engine causes decrease engine performance. Very common issue.
#2, Take a look at your engine mounts. If one is bad the engine will lean and cause the impeller to rub. Could also be the bearings, but I'm betting mounts based on your description.

Joe is right on. Low RPMs are probably due to the high oil level. If you think you think that the impeller was rubbing the wear ring under load check the motor mounts. If one is broken (which is known to happen every now and then) it will damage the carbon seal and can cause the ski to take on water. Possibly enough to sink.

All the motor mounts look fine. I'm not sure the wear ring has been replaced since 2005 so I'm just gonna go ahead and do that and see if the impeller is not aligned. I'm hoping that overfilled oil does fix the power issue. I have a 09 RXT-X as well and my RXP used to be faster on top end than it. Not the case right now haha. The RXT-X usually runs around 69-70 with a grate and the RXP is usually 72-73 but right now is running around 60-65 :(. I know its no supercharger issue. It was rebuilt 10 hours back. I wonder if I should check my air filter and clean it since it is a K&N cone filter?
