2004 Sportster LE DI starts fine but won't respond to throttle

I have a 2004 Sportster Le Di. The engine starts fine but when I start to give it some gas it starts to move but then immediately cuts itself back to idle and there is no response when I engage the throttle. I then get one 3-5 second beep which occurs every 40 - 50 seconds.

Any ideas?

Is it a 2 second beep every 58 seconds ? Will it rev to 5000 rpms and not go any higher (limp mode).

its a 2 second beep but havent really timed the interval, likely close to 58 seconds. It won't rev at all. It starts to get up to around 2000 rpms for a few seconds then it cuts back to idle.

Have you checked the cables by chance?

Yep, mechanic checked them out and said they were fine.

That sounds like a code 5 do you have a shop manual ?

no, don't have one.

If it is indeed code 5 and will only idle the shop manual for my 2005 le di with a 951 engine say's throttle position sensor (TPS).Thefault codes can be read by using the B.U.D.S reader.You need to get a shop manual for your model. I believe you can get one here by becoming a paid member.I am just learning to but maybe someone else will help.
