Hello to all. I am new to the forum but have searched it extensively for advice on this particular boat. I am looking at a 2004 Sportster LE DI that is for sale locally. The owner says that it has ~60 hours on it.

I have noticed some threads warning of problems with the DI version. Is this boat likely to be a maintenance nightmare? I'm used to a 17ft javelin with a 2-stroke 90hp outboard and it's run trouble free for 10 years.

I don't want to get into a huge money-pit here but I really like these little boats.

I'd like to hear thoughts from any and all on this model and/or 2-strokes with DI.

Thank you!

ARe you a mechanic?...

If your a mechanic, you might like it. Of course, you could be spending more time working on it, than in the water.

I've been around for a while and this direct injected motor has got one of the badest reputations of any 2 stroke I know. If you aren't experienced with this 2 part fuel injection system, I'd recommend you stay away from it. There are other Seadoo boats that aren't DI model and will be more reliable.

The other thing is, if it's for sale, what to say it's not already his nightmare and he's wanting to get rid of it.

I'd say pass this one by........

That's pretty much the biggest issue to sort out when purchasing anything mechanical. I very much appreciate the advice. In fact, I was hoping you would respond.
