Last winter I topped off my oil reservoir accidentally with used 4 stroke oil (don’t ask). This spring I pumped out the reservoir and then put in a gallon, swished around, and pumped out. I did that process twice. I never started with the bad oil.

I just used for the first time since that problem. The ski struggles to make rpm. It will run but will die at idle with no throttle. If I hold at full throttle, it seems to make about 2000 rpm. Eventually it seems to go to 3100 rpm with me holding full throttle. Eventually, after maybe 10+ minutes of holding full throttle at 3100. It will spike up to 5000. Then back down to 3100. Another 5 minutes of this game, all of a sudden it will go up to 5500 rpm for a min and then it runs fine - 6500 rpm. Yesterday it ran fine all day after this issue. This morning, same thing.
Could there be bad oil clogging, the system knows it and is limiting rpm??

I know nothing of how the machine works. I am just wondering if people think I should continue this dance a few more times, or just take it in??

Did you replace your oil filter? Did you remove the oil tank? With used motor sitting for a time the solid particles are gonna settle at the bottom and it could have plugged or partially restricted oil flow. I would be seriously concerned. You need to verify adequate flow through the small lines. I'd remove the rotary valve cover and witness flow into the intake channel and flush everything. Good Luck.

I talked to my dealer. He painted a grim picture. He said that the older sea doos that start having intermittent problems like this are very difficult to troubleshoot. He said it becomes a game of replace parts and see because the electronics are so complicated. It is a 2004. Can they at least check error codes?

Is there any feedback on the oil injection so that the computer knows it is working correctly? Meaning if the oil filter is restricting flow, would the processor restrict RPMs?

I will change that filter. Even if not related that is a good idea.

Dealers don't want to work on skis anymore, just sell you a new one so don't believe anything they say.

No, the computer has no clue what the oil system is doing.

Yea, dealers can be biased. You need a resource in your area that repairs Seadoos. Ask around, check marketplace and see what you have available. Down to earth and honest.... good people.

So I unplugged all electrical connectors to the computer. It was hot and sunny today so I left it open today to dry out really well. I put a hose on it and started it. It went to 2000 rpm without touching throttle. I goosed it a couple quick times and saw 4000 rpm. I shut it down after only running for 45 sec.

Question: why would it run at 2000 rpm without throttle? Does it have anything to do with the hose attachment?? I am going to take it to the lake again this weekend to see if it does the same thing.

Did you notice any coating (oxidation/discoloration) on the larger of the connectors for the plugs? just a check not that it will solve your problem. I'd put the ski in the water to see what it does. 45 seconds isn't a whole lot of time for an engine to normalize. I suspect your engine is lean for some reason. People don't generally replace the filters or have the injectors serviced. Did you check your fuel pressure?

I inspected all 4-5 of those larger connectors. All the pins and sockets look bright silver brand new. I am going to launch again this weekend. If I can limp through this weekend, I will get it in for a full service.
This weekend is important to me as my 17 yo son has battled lymphoma for the past 2 years. He finally has his central line out of his chest, so he is looking forward to some lake time. I want to do whatever I can to provide that.
Thanks for your replies!
