Hey guys,

Only my 2nd post so bare with me. My old man and I are looking to scoop up a PWC for the lake this year since our old one crapped out on us. Found a listing for an 04 RXP with 110 hours on it. The SC was rebuilt right around 100hrs and switched from ceramic to metal washers as well. Kept in a heated garage during winter time and seems to have been taken care of fairly well (from what I can tell). I am heading out to water test it tomorrow.

He is asking $5K for the ski without a trailer and an additional $950 for a brand new single trailer to be included. After what I've seen these machines sell for over the internet, I think this may be a little high. I need some quality opinions however. Any insight and guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

For the year it is high. As is the trailer, especially if you are buying the trailer with the ski. It is the beginning of the season and the prices always raise about then. I have seen the 04 RXP go for 3500 or so in good shape. Location makes a difference too. Florida is always cheaper then up north like in Ohio for example.

Used only in fresh water and really maintained... After riding it and it performs really good, then the 5K price area sounds about right..

I am located around the Illinois/Wisconsin boarder. I've noticed some prices out here are higher than say florida. This is probably a supply and demand issue though. How realistic would it be to try and sneak away with the ski and trailor for $4500-$4800?? obviously depends on how quickly he wants to unload the machine as well...

That's to much money for a 04. I'd want to be around $4k on it with the trailer. You need to read up on 04-06 exhaust valve failures also. Doesn't happen to all of them but there is the potential. If it happens your motor is toast! Not trying to scare you but be aware. If you do decide to test ride it it should pull 7800-8000 rpm and gps around 67-68 mph.

I appreciate your input guys. I noted the exhaust valve issue and asked him if it was taken care of with the original SC rebuild. He's going to ask his dealer at some point today for additional info. It seems that the original valves can last if the ski is run in fresh water and not at WOT for hours on end. but who knows how trigger happy he has been with the throttle for the past couple years. Worst case scenerio, how much would it cost me to throw some new valves in after the fact??

Valves are around $500. Then you need a head gasket, head bolts, rocker arm bolts which is $150-$200 plus labor. I've read and read on it trying to come to a conclusion on what machines it happens on and there is no clear line between salt water and fresh water machines. Nor is there a clear line between stock and modded.

Like you said skewba98z28, it's tough to really put a point on why or when these issues happen. Seems like a lack of maintenance and bad storage can be some of the main culprites. Regardless, I need to try and get this ski for a reasonable price before I worry about additional preventative maintenance.

To touch base on the original question however, a reasonable price for the ski is still up in the air. From some of the opinions above I've noted that it truly varies on location and time of year. Since I'm located further up north, there is a smaller amount of good PWC's available. This would result in the price being higher accordingly. But how high is too high for this ski?? that's the million dollar question at this point. More opinions please!!
