So it appears to have been hydro locked, so we have been getting the water out of it. it will turn with the spark plugs out of it and blow junk every where, but when we put the plugs back in it tries to turn and makes a metal to metal noise but doesn't crank per se'. I am not convinced the battery is strong enough, I measure about 11.4 ish; have had it on the trickle charger most of the day. for a minute I had it in my mind the coil was bad but then thought I should stop and ask those who know what you all think and what else I should look at and measure. have put new plugs in it. get 2 beeps when the key is in. this machine has had a hard life- was a rental and appears little maintenance was done. thanks for your help.

Make sure you have a good battery first before you even look elsewhere. Then check to make sure you don't have any water in your oil. If your oil looks like cappuccino, it will usually take a couple of back to back oil changes to get all the water out. If you omit this step you will kill that motor quick.

After a afternoon of charging and you only see 11.4 volts, your battery is bad. A fresh charged battery should show 12.8 to 13.1 volts.

Does it crank good without the sparks?

How was the hydrolocking? Any risk of internal damage in the motor (rod, pistons, crank)?
