Just rebuilt my 2004 GTX 4 Tec. Rebuild went well and I don't think there was anything wrong with the motor to begin with. It runs rough, won't idle, and struggles for power. Compression is right at 180 psi for all three cylinders. Head totally reworked by a very good machine shop and is good to go. ECU has been replaced with a used one but I'm thinking this one is bad too. There was a LOT of carbon and smoke out the rear prior to the rebuild. There's a little smoke now but that may just be the rings and such settling in. I have a CanDoo Pro and the only fault I'm seeing is a Lake Water Temp Sensor out of range. One question regarding the rebuild - I used the cam and crank locaters as per the manual. My timing chain, gears, guides, and tensioner are all in good shape. However, when I connected the timing gear to the cam the horizontal lines on the gear were just a small titch off from parallel with the head - I mean just a little. The only way I could have set it to true flat would've been to either move the crank or cam a little with the locater tool OUT. I couldn't find anything in the manual saying this should be done so I didn't do it.
Does any one have any suggestions on what may be ailing this thing? I'm thinking maybe the coil packs? The injectors have been replaced and I tested them using the CanDoo - they squirt good and are all the same.
Thanks in advance for any help - I'm banging my head against the wall.
