2004 gti rfi. while running on the hose it runs great. put it in the water and it will not stay running, pull th e plugs and they are wet with fuel. took it to a dealer and they had no idea what was wrong, told me there was no communication with the mpem. they told me it could be a mpem, ecu or wiring harness. I purched a used mpem/ecu and it does the same thing. what i do know is i have 150 psi in both cylinders, 54 psi fuel pressure, good fuel, good plugs, good spark and the rotary valve gear is good.

Mine had a similar problem a while ago I was chasing and did numerous things. It's still not 100% but biggest improvement I made was cleaning the injectors, fuel pump and it's filter and running NGK Iridium spark plugs.
I also rebuilt the RAVE valves as they were sticking and the o rings were shagged.
It's still not 100% and my next change will be a new coil pack.
Maybe try these things too and see how you go. A wet plug can mean poor ignition strength, overfuelling (poor spray pattern from the injector).
It will run fine out of water because there is no load on the impeller/engine.

The dealer cleaned the injectors. I have be doing some digging and for several threads on this. going to check the rotary plate for ware, did not know about this. also found that if the charging is not good that the coil with not get the proper voltage to fire. there is also times that it just clicks while starting and will take several tries for it to crank but cranks good when it does so i am think a new battery as well. the plugs are very wet when it stalls in the water. also thinking about checking the voltage and spark while in the water. also my rave valves are good.

so i have 13.8 volt at the battery while running in and out of the water. battery is at full charge. also have spark on both cylinders while running in and out of the water. pulled the injectors out and they both spray even amounts looks a little bit much to me but not bad. was told that the injectors do not really stick open just closed or get blocked. plus both doing it at the same time is not likely. did also find that if i put my hand over the exhaust exit that it stalls just like in the water, could there be a blocked exhaust? pulled off both rubber hoses from the muffler and they are good. should i take the plastic chambers off that are after them for inspection? also for give me for my sea-doo ignorance but should there be water in the muffler, because there was some when i pulled it off. where can i get info on what the sensors should read.

First off most dealers can no longer work on these old skis, our local dealer can't even program up a key. You need to find someone with an old handheld programmer that knows how to use it. Hook it up and pull the codes to see what is going on. First off pull the BR8ES plugs out , throw them in the trash, install a new set of BR7ES plugs and see if it will stay running with those, I would also pull the spark plug caps off the wires and cut the wires back 1/4" and reinstall.

The handheld will also reset the TPS most dealers have no idea how to do that on an RFI, it's fairly tricky to do it correctly but it can and will solve a lot of major running issues with these skis.

i did do the plug wire's yesterday as well. i will try the 7 in it. what is your thought about the exhaust?

so should be able to put my hand over the exhaust and make it stall? put the br7es in and it still does.

Update: so the rotary valve was timed wrong some how. now you can put your hand over the exhaust and it runs, but still stalling in the water. found the tps at -4.33 rest set it and it will change but the next time you check it will be back there, if you unplug the tps it will run fine and rips, so its the tps sensor right, wrong put a new one in and doing the same thing....

I've been reading about binding issues with driveshaft into pump. I'm going to remove mine and check that impeller moves freely, and add water grease to spline on both ends. Re assemble and see if idle improves.
