I have a 2003 utopia 185

Got to close to shore & sucked up some rocks into the jet pump
looks like the impeller housing vains were damaged a bit, &
wear ring as some grooves in it
the impeller doesn't look too bad

Still haven't been able to find any specific parts pics or parts number on-line?
wondering what some of these components cost to replace & or a reasonable price source to purchase from

thinking of just having the leading edge of the vains repaired: rewelded, reshaped, etc..

Your comments, ideas, suggests would be appericated
Thanks

P S I just found another thread for more specifics on this wondering where the repair manual download is located for this

How did the boat accelerate after you sucked up the rocks?? If it still seemed fine you can save your repairs for another day, but if it is now cavitating you will have some pump work on your hands.

Those vanes you are referring to are most likely your Stator. it wont cause a big problem unless it is really torn up, or leaking oil. The grooves in the wear housing unfortunately will have to be adressed. To replace it you are looking around 4-5 hundred for the part alone. To have the impeller and wear housing done at a dealer you would be looking in the neighborhood of 12-13 hundred. If you are fairly mechanically inclined it is really a straight forward job.

Start by unhooking the two cables that go to the nozzle and the reverse bucket. Remove the suction hose from the nozzle. While holding the bucket it the forward position remove the bolts that hold it to the stator housing. Now remove the bolts holding it to the wear housing. Be ready to catch the oil that will come pouring out when you pull it off, and have a bucket to set it in. You can now see the impeller and the last bolts holding the wear housing to the stator. You will need to remove the intake grate at this time to get at the drive shaft. Once this is done you will see there is a flat spot on the drive shaft in order to hold it with a wrench while you use an impact to remove the impeller nut. Slide the impeller off. This may take a bit of patience if it is stuck on the drive shaft. If you have to, spray it with some penetrating oil and leave it for a day or so. Remove the last bolts holding the wear housing to the pump and remove it.

Do some searching in you area and see if there are any shops that will rebuild either the housing, or the impeller. The impeller has to look like new, with nice sharp edges not to cavitate. I have read that some people have had luck with filling the gouges in the wear housing with marine epoxy, but if it were mine I would replace it if it came down to it.

If you need to replace the impeller I would recommend something like the Solas, and replace the Hydro surge Grate with a six tine fixed one.

Part numbers are 852962T for the grate, and MC-CD-22/39 for the impeller.

As a note, replace the seals in the stator while you have it off.

Aaron,

Thanks so much for your help, feedback, repair tips, etc...

I did find some more specifics on-line with a parts a illustration, prices, etc...

also a repair manual to download

Overall it doesn't look too bad on the damage
probably just going to clean up the prop, recoat w marine opoxy & hone the wear ring, build up/heliarc, reshape the leading surfaces on the stator directional vains, etc...

Grate-fully
Carl
