I have a 2003 seadoo gtx 4-tec that i recently purchased. i bought it in no runnning condition the owner told me he replaced the plugs and installed a new battery and then a fuse popped. he replaced the fuse then it popped again then he added a bigger fuse( first problem) but he got it to start but then shorlty afterwards blew the fuse. Now it has no gauges does not start and does not blow the fuse. I cleaned the dess and checked all the fuses and found no problem. When the dess is hooked up it gives one long beep and then nothing. i notice the fuel pump is running though. Can anybody help me with this? thanks for any help

hmmmmmmmmm?

Never replace a fuse in the ski with another of a higher size. You may have caused electrical damage to the EMS ECM (engine management systems - electronic control module).

The one long beep can represent a few things in the 4-TEC. Bad DESS system connection, bad post, wrong lanyard, or .........worse, improper operation of the EMS ECM........

To prevent further damage to the electronics of this highly advanced computerized motor, I suggest you take it to a shop. You've obviously got a short or knocked out your module.

They have diagnostic software they can hook up and tell you exactly what's wrong with it, if it's throwing a code. If your getting no power to nothing, then I'd say the mpem or some other electronic part is "busted"......

took to shop

yeah i took it in to the shop yesterday and they said that they can;t communicate with the ecu but couldn't give me a exact answer and told me to come back in two weeks when they are caught back up. I contacted the gentleman that i bought it from and he is buying a new meps but i don;t know if i should buy the ecu (on top of the engine also). or just try to meps first

meps?

I think your talking about the mpem (multi purpose electronic module). If he's going to get you an mpem, then you can replace that yourself, then have them re-program your lanyard. That should be about no more than $75 bucks.......

When they say give them a call in a couple weeks, that scares me. Get the mpem first, swap it out with the old mpem, with the battery disconnected. Then, although it won't start, there is an advanced diagnostic that we can perform right over this forum.....then if everything checks out, you can go get the mpem programmed to your DESS lanyard by them. That way, they won't have it "for a couple weeks, till they get caught up".

The mpem interprets the information for the ECU, so, you may be in luck that it's the mpem.........I'd get the ski back from that shop. Tell them you said you just want to sell it. Is this place an OEM Seadoo dealer/repair facility?

thanks

yeah they are seadoo repair facility but they also sell and repair yamaha motorcycles and dirtbikes. The service writer said that it would be a couple weeks and i just cringed and took my ski back. I have a mpem coming for it so i will try it and get back with you.... if the ecu is burn;t out will i run the risk of it burning up the mpem or will i be safe? as long as i don;t install a bigger fuse like the previous guy
