2003 gtx sc bad MPEM

I have been diagnosed with a bad MPEM. I believe it was caused by a loose battery connection. Should I trust buying a used one somewhere? New seem to be over $1000.00.

eBay seems to have the $300-$400 used.

I would think a used one would be just fine. Im sure some more experienced folks will be along soon and confirm or deny my thoughts.
