2003 GTX S/C first real ride, what do you guys think of these numbers?

ohh i do love this post. i just picked up a 2003 s/c gtx and it has spun a engine bearing so i haven't been on the water on it yet but just getting a feel for it i just got me a good looking large fuel drinker hey? hehe

Yea, but at least it's a reliable ol' bird. I don't think the 03's have nearly as many problems as the slighly later years are prone to, like breaking valves and failing timing chains. I replaced all that stuff on mine anyway, but low and behold, somone bought my oem valves off me on ebay within a week. If you're going to replace the bearing, I'd recommend you verify that the S/C has metal and not ceramic clutch washers. It's a pretty quick ski and one you can easily take 3 people on, as well as all their stuff. I distinctly remember thinking "Musclecraft" as I was driving it. It sure feels like one. Oh and I LOVE the supercharger whistle, it sounds sweet at idle.

Awesome! yeah the SC has been done not to long ago but on the tare down of the engine there was a crap load of oil in the inlet piping (not sure from SC or engine over full) but thinking about just pressing the SC apart and just replace bearings and front seal for the hell of it.. but im excited as!

Make sure you get all that oil out. It's hopefully only from being over-filled but this will choke
out engine. Ask me how I know....;)

Don't bother with parts and pieces of a S/C rebuild get the oem kit and do everything.

i just keep throwing money at this thing hey.. :( Question.. where do you draw the line?

Not sure, check with the Wife :)

Seriously though if any part of the supercharger fails it can do thousands of dollars in internal engine damage. About $400 to rebuild is cheap insurance then you know it's been done and you don't have to worry about it for a few years. I just did mine this winter after 3 years and 150 hours since the previous rebuild. I stretched it a bit in time and hours but I don't beat on it too much as it's usually a cruiser machine and I didn't want to lose riding time during the summer.

Well, it finally warmed up enough to test out my new-to-me 03 GTX with 185hp. I used the GPS on my phone and clocked it at 57mph at 7600rpm. When I would gun it from idle, it would rev up and hit the rev-limiter. I believe there may be some cavitation. Could that be why it's going so slow? I expected it to be in the 60's with 185hp. I haven't checked the wear ring or anything yet. Fuel consumption appears to be roughly 6.6gal / hr at 35mph (5.5k rpm), and 13.2gal / hr at wot (7.5k rpm and 57mph). It covered 8.7mi in 10min during that WOT ride and used about 2.2gal. I know that cavitation can and will rob you of speed/acceleration all throughout the power band, so what should I be getting with just one rider if it was running perfect?
PS: water temp was 41F and air temp was about 62F. Engine was roughly 57F according to the gauge cluster.

Hey "IDoSeaDoo" your numbers are good.. Check what the book says..

Hehe not thirsty at all

Using the GPS is more accurate than the Seadoo gauge. I've had my 04 at 61 using
seadoo gauge so my gauge is probably out but in any respect you're pretty close.

is yours a 185 or 215? done anything to it?

But 60L's a min and only get 44 Mins a tank at Wide open throttle.. Wow. crusing for me ;)

A 185 bone stock.

Yah the gas mileage is not very good. It's almost the same at a 98 or 99 GTX with the 951.
