Ive searched, called and read a lot of threads but all are vague and dont get straight to the point with the answer im looking for.

Im changing the oil in my 2003 GTX 4tec ski, what kind of oil can i use OTHER than the BRP XPS type oil. im looking to get something from a local Discount Auto/Auto Zone/Walmart. Etc its a 40 mile 1 way trip to a BRP dealer and thats rediculous for a special oil.

Also, on the dip stick there is no markings or holes in the end, just a bend, i assume that the bottom of the bend is on the low line and the top of the bend is the full line.

please let me know if im assuming correctly or not.

Thanks

4tec? xps is 2 stroke man. 5w30 holmes....top bend is full, bottom bend is low. bout 3.25qts?

Jesse, can you be more specific with which brand?

Thanks, frustration is getting to me i just wanna get this thing going correctly so we can enjoy it.. :)

I don't think I would use 5w30. Shop manual says 10w40. I use Castrol GTX 10w40 non-synthetic. It meets or exceeds SeaDoo oil requirements. I've been using it in 4TECS for 8 years now and it works great. Go to AUTOZONE and buy 4 qts. You'll probably only need 3 to 3 1/2 qts. after oil and filter change.

Yo,

I just changed oil, in my 2003 GTX 4 Tec. I found that if you pull up and wiggle the bolt, holding down Filter Cap. Make sure, you oil up, the O-ring, before you put it on. Yes, the Torx head is E10.
I have been buying my oil from amsoil.com. They make the oil for Seadoo. It cheaper if you buy quantities. I only use Synthetic Oil. It's better for mechanical moving parts. Costs more, but is worth it. It also smokes less, for 2 Cycle.
Oh yes, take the cap off of your spark Plugs, before you put them in.
One last thing. After you change oil and refill. Start your motor and check the Fiter cap, for leaks. Check oil with engine running.

The oil weight suggested, is 10w40. The only reason you should use 5w40, is if you have a Supercharged model, or a modified, so as to run hotter.. The lower viscosity is for Higher Temp operation.
Treat your engine well and it will last.

Draining the oil

I just bought one of these machines the manual is incomplete. My question is how is the oil drained so new can be added?

You have to insert, a 1/4" Nylon tube, in the Dip stick tube and either pump it out, or suck it out. There are manual and electric pumps, out there.
Please be sure to check for oil leaks, after changing Filter. an improperly seated Filter, or improper sized O-Ring can result on an oil leak at filter housing.

Thanks

I was able to pump it out with a pump that fits on a drill. I used standard 10w40 oil but the ski sounds and runs great but it is smoking. Is this oil related or could it be time for ring job?

Assuming you have a 4 Tech. Try an oil additive, or use a 40W, only, oil. If it still burns oil then, you probably need an OH. Could be Rings or Valves.
