Hi All,

New to the forum here and I need a little help.

I have just completed a rebuild of the engine on my GTX RFI 787. Everything looked good, no pressure leaks etc. Replaced regulator, starter solenoid etc and all seals.

So once the engine was put back in, new oil etc, I hooked up a new battery and kept turning it over to prime it etc. And It started up no problem out of water on the hose.

The problem is it idled at 4000 RPM. It was not a gradual ramp up so no vacuum leak.

SO my question is 2 fold. I can't find the out of water idle on this model (Assume it should be same as in water since it is fuel injected?)

And if thats the case is it because I need to reset the TPS?

And If I need to reset the TPS, anyone know anyone in the area between Boston MA and Providence RI someone that can do this for me? I don't feel like spending $400 on a Candoo Pro, that I will use exactly once...

Thanks ahead of time for any response.

Chris

the 99 gsx rfi i had if memory serves me right, i set the idle out of water at about 23-2400 rpm which idled 1600 in water.
on my 99 rfi, there was an Allan idle set screw just above the bell crank. not sure all of what years had this adjustment as the later years had no adjustment which i believe is 2004 and up. tps should not need to be reset unless the tps sensor has been removed or replaced
with my gsx, i had no idea of the history so i had a local dealership perform the tps reset and didn't do it right. seems to me that the dealers dont work on 2 strokes anymore so don't know much about them so i bought a candoo so that i could be sure it was done right
as you may know, the tps and air pressure sensor share the same harness plug type so make sure the are in their right places, easy to mix them up. the wire color codes are in the repair manual for the sensors.

Awesome info thanks. I'll be checking to make sure I didn't swap the sensor clips. I didn't take off the sensor, but did take of the assembly it's attached too so I believe I'm good there. That would make sense. Can't use it this weekend anyway as I lost the trailer registration and ordered a new one, and am getting it this weekend from my father in law.
