I have a 2002 RXDI that I bought not running. Previous owner had sucked in debris and wrecked the rubber connectors in the exhaust. I got that fixed, and went to the water. It starts up, red light is on, no beeps, no anything on the screen (i.e. Maint, 12v low, etc) when I hit the throttle, it sounds like the rev limiter is being hit and I can't even get it to plane. Just the sound of the motor "revving"

I've checked the wear ring and impeller and they are good. I replaced the fuel pump and rectifier. The other weird issue is I cannot get it to go into diagnostic mode. I hit the start button 5 times and never get the short/ long beep. When I plug the key in I get the 2 beeps. Then I get 4 short beeps that keep repeating. I can't find that on a 2002, on a 2003 I see it's a warning that the key is on without the motor running

Any thoughts as to what I should try next? Im stumped here.

It sounds like it's in limp mode. Is there anyway you could get a diagnostic check? Candoo or BUDS.
There may be some unresolved faults.

Two beeps is good. Four beeps is reminding you that the lanyard is still attached and you haven't started it yet. After a few seconds of no activity with the lanyard attached the ski will start beeping. Sort of like leaving the keys in the ignition of your car and opening the door.
Engine revving and not going anywhere is most probably a worn out carbon seal on the driveshaft allowing the pump to suck air and cavitate. Could also be worn out splines on the driveshaft going into the pto.
I would pull the pump and driveshaft and replace the carbon seal, stainless ring, bellows and while apart change the oil in the pump.

Start the ski push and hold the set button. If the red light disappears then it was just a maintenance service light. If it does not go away then the ski is throwing a code and will need to find out what it is.

Thank you- I'll try the set option and see where it leads.

From a reva stand point, I would say it revs to maybe 2500/ 3000 max

Umm...is the ski hitting the rev limiter or is it just getting to 2500/3000 rpms max??

Ok making more sense now. You are not hitting the rev limiter as first stated in post #1. With the red light on and low revs you ski is most probably in limp mode.
With out any diagnostic equip to tell you what codes it is throwing is going to be difficult to find the problem.
I would download a shop manual first and do a little reading. (Trouble shooting)
Do a compression test. 130 to 135psi is near perfect. 120 is still good.
Check the voltage across the battery. Should be 12.04 to 12.4vdc. Anything below 11.7 and the battery needs to be load tested. Good strong battery is imperative for DI's. For me personally I would get a Duracell battery from Batteries Plus.
While the voltmeter is connected to the battery start the ski and rev to approx 4000rpms. Voltage should read 13.5 to 14.5vdc. Anything less or more and your rectifier is defective and needs to be replaced. I know it is new, but they can be defective right out of the box.

My compression is 125 and 128. The battery is just over 12.1. Voltage at 4000 is 13.8. I've been reading the shop manual. My next steps were checking the reeds and the TPS

Yep I was going reeds and tps next. Too bad you don't have access to a candoo pro. Good luck.

You know temp sensors have been known to fail causing the same symptoms. Not advocating going out and purchasing a new temp sensor without a proper diagnosis, jut thinking of possible causes.

so I had no active codes running. Found a very helpful group at Mazer Performance in Essex Vt. Took the thing to the lake to scan it while it did it under load. Here's what we found

Really ridiculous, but at some point in its life someone removed the exhaust pipe and took it apart. There is a sealant that goes around where the head pipe and come bolt together that
Had been broken when disassembled and not reapplied. Exhaust as leaking into the hull while running. When I hit the throttle, it was pulling in the crappy exhaust air and choking the motor out.

It sounds nuts, but it worked

Nothing showed on the computer, at all. I found it because it had no power. I picked u the seat randomly to check out if anything was going on. The hull was full of xhaust.

I also found several other issues just recently as well.
1- my water box temp sensor was melted and needed to be replaced
2- my wear ring, even though the dealer told me it was just replaced by the former owner, was toast. I mean toast.

Aha, ok. My 3D is out of power after 1/3 of gas. I'm fixing and inspecting what I can. I'm not sure wat is wrong... I'm checking the fuses today and trying to find my way the easygoing way

Glad to hear a happy ending to a DI not running. Typically it isn't that simple.
