I just bought my 02 GTX RFI and it starts on the trailer just fine but when you put it in the water it has a really hard time starting. Took quite a while to get it to finally fire up in the water this evening and then it wouldn't exceed more than maybe 6mph at full throttle.

Got it out of the lake and stopped by an auto parts store. Pulled the plugs and both were covered in burnt oil and smelled of gas. Any ideas guys? Think just by hanging the plugs could fix the problem completely?

Im no pro, but i have a few things that you may want to check.

-Compression in all cylinders
-spark by grounding one plug wire to the ground plug and testing the other for spark.
-replace your plugs... do NOT attempt to reuse them, you will not get an accurate test run.

I would start there
and let us know what your compression ends up being

if it runs and revs on the trailer... but not in the water... I'd say you have very low compression.

Needs to be checked.

I just put in new plugs and took it out on the water this evening. Started right up and did 55mph on the speedo. :hurray:

Haven't checked the compression or anything either.
