2001 utopia 185 stalls under heavy load.

Hello,

I have a 2001 seafood utopia 185 with ompimax 200 M2. Not carburated motor. Runs great until going full throttle and going fast or pulling tube and then just out of nowhere it dies. Starts up moments later and is great until getting on it again. I’ve replaced inline fuel pump. (First from tank) and fuel safety connector on tank. Replaced plugs also. Beeped when I first purchased three years ago but no beeps at all anymore. Will get up to 40+mph fairly quickly sometimes but typically dies once cruising for a minute. Kill switch must be jumped because it runs whether teathered or not. Google is typically my friend and can figure most any problem out with whatever I’m working on although can’t find answers on this.

There is more than 1 filter. Have you checked them all?
There may be one at the high pressure fuel pump.

i have this issue intermittently as well. If I run at 5500 rpm of lower, it will run all day. But if I go WOT, it will randomly die. It restarts right away and is fine whenever it happens.

I always thought it was just that the engine bay doesn't get enough fresh air... following.

I was just getting my boat ready to go to the lake for first time and thought I would check if anyone figured out issue out?

I’m hoping for a miracle and storing for winter fixed it.

I still haven't figured it out - and it has happened again to me this past weekend, though only once in a 15-20 minute ride. I guess maybe the temp sensors? But I get no alarms or anything and she starts right back up and runs normally after.

As mentioned above by Tim75, have all fuel filters been replaced? Possibly throttle position sensor (TPS) issue? Maybe there are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the controller that could point you in the right direction. A Quicksilver/Mercury Smartcraft system or the Mercury service tool could display any DTCs if present.

I agree with Murph_13.
I have a 240EFI, and the only time it stalled at WOT, was with a bad TPS.
