This is a noob question but.....I have a 2001 GTX RFI .... the engine is totally rebuilt top/bottom .... can I start it out of the water on garden hose? ... I'm a motorcycle guy and took the seadoo on partial trade... I rebuilt the engine complete and the block is obviously dry... no water in it... just need to hear it start before I take it out to the lake... it hasn't been started since I put the engine back in.... I've read never turn hose on when engine is not running ....but the block is empty.... is there a procedure .... don't want to smoke the engine right off the hop...

No need to run the water to run it out of the lake or river. You can safely start it out of water for 30 seconds. The hose is only for flushing the cooling system in reverse and is only supposed to be ran for about 45 seconds on the hose. Although I’ve never rebuilt an RFI I do believe that they are supposed to get double the amount of oil for break in after a rebuild. With a carbureted engine you would run premix along with the oil injection but you can’t do that for the fuel injected models, I believe there is a setting for your oil pump lever so that it’s getting double the amount of oil

It isn't a good idea to premix the injected skis. You can set the oil pump arm so it gets more oil though for break-in.

There is no "block is empty" these are an open loop cooling system and don't need any water to run for a few seconds, no waterpump or anything to hurt.
