I have two 2001 GTX RFI seadoos and just replaced the steering cable nut with a brass one on one of them. I ran into issues with the original plastic nut was broken off in the housing and had to remove the impeller and housing to carefully remove the plastic threads.

I am posting a question about the impeller shaft, it appears to be loose but threads are solid. Should I keep it or replace the shaft and impeller. Everything on these seadoos has original parts. What type of grease is used when placing the impeller back on the shaft?

Appreciate the advice.

First off your wear ring is completely shot. All of the rubber is missing from the fiberglass support ring and needs to be replaced immediately

Second, that is your driveshaft and not the impeller shaft. It needs to be lubed with synthetic marine grease like the Seadoo XPS grease and you are missing the rubber boot that keeps the grease in. From the picture the splines look fine and not worn.

Thanks for the quick response. I am heading out to pick up the new wear ring. I have the rubber boot so I should be good to go.

Any tips on how much of a challenge it is to replace the wear ring?

Use a die grinder to easily cut it out and drop new ring in freezer for a few hours and they usually drop right in. Amazing that thing ran decent missing all the rubber on the ring!

With the rubber gone already you might be able to just wiggle the fiberglass ring out. Some of the newer ones used screws from the outside to hold them in so look for them first.

Update- out with the old and in with the new.IMG_0020.JPGIMG_0024.JPGIMG_0023.JPG

Planning to use synthetic oil back for the cone. Should I be concerned that when I opened it up to drain the oil it smelled really bad?

Appreciate the tip on using the freezer, it worked like a charm.

Make sure you use either the Seadoo oil, Klots Jet Pump oil or some even use Mobil 1 75w-90 synthetic gear oil.

Was able to get back on the water today. The 2001 GTX RFI ran better than ever. So thankful for this forum.
