GTX DI Fuel line.jpg

I just got a 2001 GTX DI with 75 hours on it. The second time out it started missing. When I check under the seat the high pressure line was dripping. It has about a 2 inch slice in the outer rubber. SeaDoo shows the part is discontinued. I found a used one on ebay for $25. Is this a common problem or just my luck? Also could the fuel regulator fail and allow the pressure to go to high. I don't want to install this one if it would fail also.

Also on my way back to shore my fuel gauge went from 1/2 tank to 1/4 then 1/8 with beeping then 0, in about 15 seconds. The tank still has over 1/2 a tank in it, Thank goodness it was not all in the hull. I haven't had time to look at it, is there a float that could have cracked and sunk?

Thanks
Tom

I can't comment on the part or fuel regulator as I am not familiar with DI models. But your fuel gauge definitely sounds line your float in the baffle sunk. Common problem and cheap replacement. Just replace. I wouldn't bother trying to repair the float.

There is no fuel baffle on DI. The fuel pump assy is quite different than a carb model. It does have a float but is attached to an arm and these are typically very reliable as they are identical to most car set ups.

Split fuel lines are not common on the DI lines. Even though they are very high pressure they are very well made. Buying used should be fine.

Thanks ski-do. That shows I'm even less familiar with the DI than I even considered. I learned something with this thread too.

OK thanks for the info.

So, I put the used high pressure fuel line on and filled the tank. The machine is back to running great and the fuel gauge went to full. With my 220lbs on it I can hit about 61mph. It's down to 5/8 on the gas gauge, I should have run it longer to see what the gauge would do below 1/2.

So a few Questions

1. it seams like its running a little fast from other posts elsewhere. Is it running lean and mean heading for disaster?

2. Was the fuel pressure low because of the dripping fuel line making it miss, or were the fumes in the boat so high it was running rich(scary to think about)

3. if my fuel gauge drops from 1/2 to empty does it hurt to tie up the float so it does not alarm. I would plan on filling the tank after each use, but after a long day it might get pretty low. I know on cars they say to stay above 1/4 tank, because the fuel is used to cool the pump. Is there a potential for damage to the machine by running low or out?

Thanks again,
Tom
