hello all,
im new to the site and new to sea doo boats, i just purchased a 2001 14.5 challenger on my test run the port engine will not idle down revs at about 3000 rpms the starboard idles at about 1000, it doesn't seem the cable is holding it up and the spring on the engine feels like it is pulling all the way back to where it should idle. I dont know about rotax engines but it seems like a vacume line ? any help or suggestions would be appreciated thanks

There is no vacuum lines on these motors. You'll need to check your idle stop on your MAG carb. It's easiest to do with the air box removed, so you can see what your doing. If you want to run the engine for a while while adjusting, put the flame arrestor back on so you can keep your manifold pressure up. This is what creates your restriction.

On the front carb (magneto side or MAG), there is a brace holding it with a small rectangular cut-out. This is where you should see your idle adjustment. Turn it outwards till you get the desired rpm. These are suppose to be set up as follows. With the idle stop screw just making contact with your plate, turn it in 3 full turns. This is suppose to run your motor at 3k rpm out of the water, 1500 in the water. From experience, I have found that if you turn the entire 3 turns in, it'll be a little high. That's why I like to adjust on the water.

If you turn the idle stop out and it doesn't idle down, it could be your oil injection cable or your sync bar arm holding you. But, check your idle first.

Take a look at the helm area

Most SeaDoo boats have a system that increases the RPM of one motot or the other to assist slow speed steering. When you are idleing and turn the wheel hard left a cable at the helm speeds up the stbd motor to help push you in the direction you want to go. It sounds to me like one of those cables is hung up. They are adjustable at the helm.

if you don't have any cables pulling on the carb. then it sounds to me like you might have a bad crank seal.check the spark plug to see the colour,if a little on the white side would probably confirm

Great comments...

Great comments guys. The off power steering assist is actually connected to the throttle cable. In the series of steps I've outlined for him in post #2 is to determine if it has anything to do with the carbs, linkages or possible casing air leaks.

Great to see the help so I guess we'll have to wait to see what he's found out before we can go any further.......

thanks for the help

it appears that the throttle cable is damaged and hanging up before the carb can idle down, thanks for the information now time to find parts !
