Hi ALL,

I'm hoping some of you knowlegable people can help me with this issue?

So heres what is happening, please excuse my termenology as i am by far an expert.

Took my machine out last sunday for the first time, she ran great! no issues at all. Now today i take it out and she fires up no problem, i idle the machine out to port as its a no wake zone. once i enter the lake from the bay i notice a red light flashes 2 times on my dash and the word "Maint" comes up.

Machine was still running good. keeping a steady idle at 1450rmps. so i continue on while keeping close to shore, now when i pull the throttle all the way, she wouldnt go as fast and maxed out at 4500rpm. then i release the throttle and pull again and she takes off at 6700 to 6900rpms.

So i keep cruiseing around, but heres the thing. if i squeezed the trottle all the way. she would only hit the 4500rpm, but it i held it right before full throttle she would take off and run great. even a couple of times when i was cruiesing along it would some time drop to 4500 and i would release quick and reapply and gone again to 6700rpm.

i'm not sure if anyone knows what this would be? other then this she ran great. another thing when i was coming back to the launch, she stalled out, then took a bit to start up again. i plan to take it back to the dealer i bought it from as i still have warranty on it, but was hoping someone with experience may know what it is before i have to drive it 2 hours back to the dealer.

Thanks so much
House

The MAINT light can be from a timer. It can be reset by you. It's outlined in your owners manual.

As far as the low RPM... then popping up... that can be a leak in the air system... or more commonly... RAVE valves that are stuck. You may want to see if they move free.

Thanks for the reply Dr. I have read how to reset and i will try when i take her out again (just old set button for 2 seconds when "Maint" comes up) i've checkes the Raves (Almost lost the spring lol) im not to sure how freely these should move? but one definatly moves more freely then the other. but both move with some slight preassue to pull them up. but as mentioned one moves much easier then the other. Should i remove to check for build up? i thought the dealer would have done all that when purchased.

Thanks for your help!

They should move very free. Sound's like they need to be pulled, and cleaned. That may be all that's wrong.

The "MAINT" message, red warning lite blinking and limited RPM's mean the ski is in "LIMP MODE". This can happen for any number of reasons and the dealer should scan the ski and look for codes. The charging system is a likely suspect.

Thanks Dennis, i still plan on taking it to the dealer, however i did read in the Manual of the machine going into limp mode. what what confused me that it kept jumping back and forth. if it was limp mode. it should have stayed in limp mode? but it ran Good most of the time. with here and there it wouldnt go past the 4500rpm. but once released the throttle and reapply it would take off again. very strang. is there a maintence at 115 hours?

are you using the proper oil for your ski ???? -- raves pretty dirty

I'm currently using XPS synthetic. The machine is new to me, I'm not sure what the previous owner used. But I asked before I bought it that they flush out whatever was in there before and replace with the XPS synthetic. Recommended in manual.

Well I called the dealer, and based on the symthoms. He thinks it's the same thing you mention. He said voltage regulator. Anyhow I gotta bring it to the dealer on Friday. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again

The symptoms you mentioned led me to believe that you have a possible voltage regulator issue. Alot of times when the regulators go bad they become erratic. Sometimes charging OK, sometimes not enough and sometimes way too much. This erratic operation will cause the computer to go in and out of limp mode. Of course, right now this is all speculation and they may find something else causing the problem.

Well Dropped the machine back at the dealers this morning. After testing, they said its not the voltage regulator. His words were "its more indepth then we thought" just friggen great!! Now I had to leave the machine with him. 2 hour drive from my house. Does anyone think I'm out to lunch by asking for a loner till mine is repaired? I just bought it from them, didn't even get 2 hours off the machine. Now here I am with beautiful weather, had friends coming down this weekend to ride, and had plans for the long weekend next weekend. And I have no machine!!
