I had my buddy at Sea Doo bring over his MPEM and pull the codes on my 2000 GTX RFI and everything checked out except there crank shaft sensor. He cleared all the codes and had it ready to install a new crank sensor. I ordered the new crank sensor, put it in and it just spins irregularly and quits on it's own. Eventually it will start to "burp" and then it will backfire really hard ! Did I just get a bad "brand new, out of the sealed sea doo package" crank sensor or does anyone have an idea of what's wrong? Help would be much appreciated !

thanks,

not likely you got a bad crankshaft sensor and it might not have been bad in the first place it will always give that code when the unit is not running since the crank is not spinning if it is back fireing check rotary valve timing and clearence and i just had one back fireing and it was the mpem the computer

rotary valve timing?

what would cause the rotary valve to mis-time all of a sudden? the ski was flooded, but I vacuumed the water out before any rust had a chance to set in and I dumped a couple ounces of 2 stroke oil in the cylinders to make sure it was lubed well. how do I go about testing if the mpem is bad?

rotary shaft brass gear

So, is it the rotary shaft brass gear you're talking about? If so, how do I go about checking to see if it's that?

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. It will only backfire now. won't start.

thanks,
jay
