I just started getting these up and running. I drained gas, changed plugs, installed new battery. Got it to fire up. Had a maintenance light, took it to dealership, they reset and said no codes. Told me to replace wear ring and cable locks and I should be good. I changed parts and took it out. Ran great to start with, I went slow then 40 mph. Seemed great. I noticed a small popping almost backfire. Headed in, then it ran rough and died. Didn't want to start. When it did, if I hit gas at all would immediately kill it. After I got in, on idle, I pulled the plugs, seemed fairly carbonized for new plugs. I pushed starter without plugs, didn't seem like I was getting much gas shoot out. It did start better and let me give some gas before it died while I trailored it.

Thanks in advance for any input. I have been researching. I have not changed the fuel filter yet. I will look for it right now. Rave valves could be the culprit according to one post I read. Lastly the fuel injectors. Can I clean these?

Again, thanks for your time and knowledge.

I would change the fuel filters first, meaning there are three filters. the big one on the supply line to the fuel rail. Next are two internal filters on the fuel pump. It requires removing the fuel pump from the tank.
There is a small filter directly on the bottom of the pump and there is one inside the fuel pump itself.
I generally release the three black tabs and separate the pump housing. Some guys drill the rivets and separate that way. both work. When separated you will see the second filter.
When reassembling the pump make sure both the fiber and metal washer are installed at the bottom.
Pay close attention to how the washers are installed when taking it apart as it is critical they go back the same way.
As for the large canister filter on the fuel supply line, a lot of guys cut it out and replace with a wix 33095 metal filter and two stainless hose clamps. works great for under 10 dollars.
Next I would send the injectors off to get cleaned. I think the place to send them to is called "Fuelman" or something like that.
Lastly I would rig up a fuel pressure gauge to measure fuel pressure. Fuel pressure should read 107psi. It cannot vary from that more than 1psi or your ski will not run correctly if at all.
The internal filters can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
Airtex FS242
Airtex FS220

While you are into your fuel system do a compression test. With compression gauge installed hold throttle wide open and push the start button crank until gauge stops building.
Should read 140psi. Anything below 120 and your engine will need at minimum a top end rebuild.

Based on many threads,,,when the maintenance light comes on,,,its usually from a regulator going,,,a weak battery, or sometimes,,,but rarely, the stator,,,of course, always check all your connections.
