So, I bought a nice clean (non-running) GS last fall on a trailer for $400... Sold the trailer for $250.. Making me the owner for $150.

It already has a SBT rebuilt 717 in it, but the owner said his son was riding it and it "just quit". He didn't have any specifics, he was kind of a North Idaho hippie-type... Didn't strike me as mechanical. He had busted cars and equipment all over his property.. lol. If it breaks, buy a new one I guess.

So I'm wrapping up a couple other projects before I dive into this, and the suck part is I have no Dess key for it.

Here are my questions:

1) I pulled the plugs, the engine turns freely counter clock-wise but makes a consistent click, click, click sound as I turn it. I have a hard time turning it clockwise by hand.... Both pistons complete their stroke.

2) If I drop a battery in it, will it turn over without the Dess key?

3) What should the compression be if it does?

4) Where should I shop for a key?

You need a valid programmed DESS key. Talk to Minnetonka4me, he can program your MPEM to a new key for short money, just ship him the MPEM.
