1998 XP Limited starter issue

I tried starting my XPL but when I push the start button all I hear is a click in the front electrical box. It beeps twice and all the guages work. I did manage to have it turn over and did get it to start but once I turned it off, it did the same thing with the one click and couldnt start it again. I'm guessing I need to replace the starter. I would like to verify this or if it is something else entirley please let me know.

Check the battery voltage. Batteries & starters can be LOAD tested. Starter relay may be going south. Jump the relay's lugs. If it works better, its faulty.
