1998 seadoo spx not firing

I have a 1998 seadoo spx. The spark plugs have fire for a split second when you hit the start button then they stop. They fire again once ar twice when you let off of the start button. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

check the coil resistance as well as the spark plug boots (cut off 1/4-1/2" before the boot)
