I just recently removed one of the engines from the boat. I pulled the flywheel cover and found out that water was getting inside of the area. The area was completely rusty. I pulled the flywheel and removed the magneto to clean everything. I also wanted to install new gaskets for the housing and cover. I then put everything back together and put it back in the boat. After hooking everything back up, I proceeded to try and start it with no luck. Turns out there is no spark. To try and make a long story shot. I ended up putting the non running stator/trigger plug wire in the working engine, I switched the spark plug wires and starter wire to. Bingo it fired up with all the wiring from the non working engine. This tells me that all the rest of the parts have to be good in the boat, which I am happy about. It has to be what I installed or something i did, which I am not so happy about. I did buy a cheaper stator package that came with the stator, pickup coil and plug. It almost looked a little smaller, also the bolts that hold the stator to the cover were very tight to put in. Basically i had to thread them all the way through the new stator. I also noticed the plastic ring that pervents shorting to the stator bolts was not on the new one. I did compare them and even counted the number of coils and it matched. I am thinking either DOA trigger coil or flywheel is not far enough back causing the raised spot on the mag to not be in the right possition. I did forget to sand the raised part on the mag though. The flywheel had a notch on the crank and I did put a mark on the mag when I removed it. Not sure what to do next.
