a question about the carb gaskets on the 98 787.
I see that the OEM carb base gasket bore is just a little bit bigger that the actual bore of the carb, ok,,,

on the aftermarket wsm and sbt gaskets the bore/hole of the gasket is significantly larger, just barely covering that inner ring machined area on the carb flange.

what`s the skinny on this?

I`ve used wsm for 21 hours with no issues and just recently installed the carbs with a sbt intake set and noticed how much larger they are than the OEM`s, I mean were only talking about 1-1.5 mm but still, isn`t more contact area better?

just wondering if I`m going to have an issue with these gaskets... Thanks

Andy,

You actually should be using the thick gaskets for the jet boats not the thin ones for the skis.

Jet boat carb gaskets 204250035 $12 a pop

Ski carb gaskets 293250042 $6 a pop

The boat ones are .125 thick, not sure why but there is a difference. I noticed it when I did my first engine in my Speedster, the OEM gasket kit didn't come with carb flange gaskets so I hit the dealer for them. Gave them the part # and the guy asked what it for so I told him and he said oh you need the thick ones. I said I guess and asked "they're not the same as the skis?" and he brought both out and sure enough he was right. Got back home and the old ones in the box were the fatties.

Edit:
Sorry, I know I didn't answer your original question. But I saw that too with an aftermarket carb gasket I had laying around, I went and bought OEM's for the XP build. Another reason I try no to stray from the OEM stuff.

Thanks again Dan, you always come thru with great info! I guess I`ll stop were I`m at and just order the fatties (lol). I`ll remove the thin ones from the one engine and just mock up the fuel lines on the other for now.
I think someone had mentioned the new ones are no longer fat, I guess we`ll see...
so far anywhere I`ve looked besides Fleabay is 12 bux a pop...
Merry Christmas buddy!

edit: 4- 204250035 ordered!... now I feel better...lol
