I bought a 1997 SPX. Runs fine. 2nd time we took it out forgot the plug and did not notice for awhile. We took it out of the water. Engine compartment was probably half full. Took out spark plugs and started to get the water out. Water "spurt" came out of exhaust. Starts fine out of water and seems to rev fine out of water. In the water it will only go about 2 x of idle at full throttle. What now?
Thanks

So the engine was actually full of water?
If it was and you didn't run it hard immediately they you have probably damaged your crankshaft bearings from rust.
If it wasn't full of water I would check compression first.

The engine compartment was 1/3 full of water. I did run it. I pulled the spark plugs and started it as well. I will check compression and then see where I go next.

So to confirm the engine compartment had water but it didn't get inside the engine?

I am pretty sure it had some water in the engine. Water was coming out when I started it with the spark plugs out.

So if you didn't run it hard after this happened your crank is most likely done. Second when you get water in the engine is can get pumped into the fuel pump and damage it on the MAG carb. I would pull the carbs and install new Genuine Mikuni carb kits.
